The Hills Are Alive
In 1959, the Rogers and Hammerstein musical “Sound of Music” opened on Broadway. The story was about Maria, a young, rebellious girl sent by nuns to be the nanny at the home of Georg von?Trapp. We all know the ending; the exciting escape through the mountains and the ultimate marriage between Georg and Maria.
When my daughter, Mandy, was a teenager, she auditioned and won the role of Maria in “Sound of Music” produced at Playhouse 22, the regional theater in East Brunswick, NJ. The show was a hit and played to sold-out crowds. Her reviews were outstanding.
Later, after college, Mandy went on to become a professional actress and singer, performing all over the country with her group, Pieces of 8.
That was then. Now, she is a speech pathologist and vocologist with a practice in Colorado. She loves the mountains and the Colorado lifestyle.
In June, Mandy married Kevin. The wedding was in the mountains above Boulder, Colorado. The ceremony took place outside, overlooking a deep ravine flanked by soaring peaks. The reception was in a beautiful chalet. Both being actors/singers, many of their guests were as well. Their group, Pieces of 8, had a reunion and performed for the guests. Dotty, Deborah and I sang to the couple and many of their friends performed for us all.
The hills were truly alive with the sound of music.
